Ras al Khaimah
Ras al Khaimah is a United Arab Emirates city in the Persian Gulf and capital of the country with the same name. It is a popular tourist destination in the region.
- Dhaya Fort – A 16th century mud-brick fort overlooking the Gulf. A popular tourist attraction, flanked by palm gardens and with a paved way leading to the main gate.
- National Museum – Housed in the former palace of the ruling family, the museum contains archaeological remains and ethnological artefacts, documents and weapons associated with the country’s history.
- Saqr Park – The city’s only park, containing play areas for children and especially popular at weekends, there are three electronic games halls, a roller coaster and a Big Splash ride.
There are numerous dining options in Ras al Khaimah, from fast food outlets to more traditional eateries serving delicious Arab cuisine. The Al-Sahari restaurant is notable for its reasonably priced Emirati menu that features Lebanese specialties and some international options like Chateau Briand. The Vegetarian’s Restaurant has a particularly extensive menu specialising in curries and tandoori along with dosas and a whole range of other favourites.
There are plenty of great activities for the whole family here, with fantastic private beaches, several sleepy lagoons and a range of water-sports to enjoy together. There are guided mountain hiking tours, a dhow cruise and the Manor Mall in the centre of the city is packed with arcade games along with a multi-screen cinema. The Khatt Thermal Springs offer a fun and healthy bathe and you can also watch camel racing.
There are accommodation options in Ras al Khaimah to suit most tastes, from cheap B&Bs to plush hotels, as well as extensive resorts with private swimming pools and beaches.
